PTSD

When people think of PTSD, the first thing that comes to mind are veterans. However, the average person has not experienced combat; trauma manifests in various forms beyond military experiences.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder affects the mental emotional state and can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Most of my patients say it’s like a wound that doesn’t heal properly.

Having PTSD can leave you constantly on edge and overwhelmed by stressful memories or flashbacks of the traumatic event.

Traumatic events can include things like a military background, physical abuse, sexual abuse, disasters like a house fire, car accidents, serious injuries, witnessing violence against a loved one, a traumatic loss, and childhood trauma.

Symptoms, manifestations, and situations related to PTSD I commonly see in my practice:

Post traumatic stress disorder relief with acupuncture

One of the most important principles in Chinese medicine is that emotions are a cause of disease when present for a long time or very intense. PTSD is something that tends to stick around a lot longer than other mental emotional imbalances.

It’s like the mind can’t get past what happened and will replay over and over. Acupuncture will help calm your nervous system to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and hyper vigilance commonly associated with PTSD.

It can also help stabilize your mood by balancing neurotransmitters. This will help with symptoms of depression and feelings of emotional numbness.

Many people with PTSD experience restless sleep, including nightmares. Acupuncture can help improve sleep quality by promoting relaxation.

In Chinese medicine, there are special protocols for PTSD. For many of my patients suffering from post traumatic stress disorder, I use ear acupuncture, also known as auriculotherapy.

There’s three uniques points that are good for PTSD

These points have a direct impact on the brains’ limbic system, which is involved in processing emotions and memories. After acupuncture treatment is complete, ear seeds are placed on special points to help prolong the outcome until the next visit.
